Raising a Blog – The Awkward Teenage Years

A year ago, I was in the process of getting serious about blogging. I have had a blog for nearly all of the last 12 years or so and it had always been a fun hobby. I’ve had so much fun with it, and made so many new friends. It’s been great! In the beginning, it was a wonderful way to let my Mom know what was going on in my life, or share crochet patterns with my yarny buddies.

Raising a blog is hard. Having the right tools and mentors makes all the difference in the world!

That has changed so much for me in this past year, and I want to tell you why.

But first, some examples.

Here is one of my very first posts on my brand new domain name:

This recipe is so good and a great first try for young chefs.

Scary, right? I mean she’s cute… but NOT professional. Not what you would expect from a professional website. It was great information, but not presented in a professional way.

And That’s OK! Those awkward teenage years are hard!

Muffin tin meatballs
Muffin tins ain’t just for muffins anymore!

I have grown as a person so much in this past year, and especially as a blogger. If you look at where I was to where I am now, there has been tremendous growth!

In the beginning, I was pinning everything blog-creation related I could. I read e-books, watched webinars, participated in chat groups. I didn’t have any focus, and I was getting CRAZY OVERWHELMED by all of the information that I was consuming.

However… I kept coming back to one person. One blogger stood out from the rest as an authority. I started narrowing my vision on what she was saying. I talked about her on a first name basis to my husband. (Please, please tell me that isn’t weird!!)

That person was Ruth Soukup. Ruth is the creator of Living Well, Spending Less, as well as the Elite Blog Academy.

Unfortunatly, Elite Blog Academy is only open for new students once a year, and it’s not right now.

BUT… Ruth is so generous with her talent and time that she is offering some new classes and webinars, and they are free! These aren’t just fluff to sell something, they have enormous take away value, and you will be able to immediately implement what you learn into your own blog.
