A Crappy Christian
Do you ever feel like you are coming up short when it comes to your faith? You WANT to follow God’s plan for your life, in theory, but you don’t want to actually do it, or you don’t listen, or you aren’t even asking.
That’s where I am at right now, and it’s not just my faith that’s suffering. My family life is sketchy, and I am not just questioning my faith, but my wifehood and motherhood as well.
I am bi-polar, and sometimes my moods change to this dark place. I try to medicate it away, but sometimes it just doesn’t work. It is those times that I must rely more heavily on God’s guidance to help me through.
The problem, though, is that when I am like this, I can barely manage to pray, much less study His word to get some sort of discernment in my life.
What do I do?
This is always where I need to start. Opening up my heart in prayer will help me to focus on what’s above instead of what is beside. Also, when you start LOOKING for your blessings, and thank Him for what you have, it is easier to come out of the funk.
Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. James 5:13
Reading God’s word is one of the only ways to hear Him speak. He will guide your quiet time to where it needs to go if you just give it a chance, and actually listen!
Be Still and Know that I am God! Psalm 46:10
Talk it out.
As easy as it is to bottle up our emotions, sometimes we need to talk about them so we don’t blow our top and feel like a crappy Christian. This is a huge struggle for me, because I’m a people pleaser. I don’t want to burden anybody with my problems. My husband is supposed to be my rock, I need to learn to LET him.
Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of a friend springs from their heartfelt advice. Proverbs 27:9
Let it GO.
If you know what is causing your anxiety, depression, blah-ness, or blues … let it go. This is the hardest thing for so many of us to do! I struggle with my past and that is not where God wants me to focus my time. He wants to shape my now and my future … not my past. We have to learn to forgive, even if they are not sorry!
Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. I Peter 1:7
The biggest takeaway is that the only way to combat feeling like a crappy Christian is to start being a good one. Thankfully, we don’t lose God’s love over our transgressions! He loves us and wants the best for us.
The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty One who will save. He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you by His love. He will exalt over you with loud singing. Zephaniah 3:17
Is this something that you struggle with? What do you use to help yourself through the rough times? I’d love to hear from you!
